ITINERARY: CHOQUEQUIRAW HIKE 5 DAYS / 4 NIGHTS
DAY 1: CUSCO – CACHORA – CAPULIYOC – LA PLAYA
The tour begins with pick-up at your hotel in Cusco between 4:30 and 5:00 am, and then we will head towards Capuliyoc through the majestic Andes. Upon arrival, around 8:30 am, you will enjoy a nutritious breakfast before beginning the trek. During this first stage of the 5-day/4-night Choquequiraw hike, you will descend for 4 hours from Capuliyoc (9,550 feet/2,911 m) to the lunch site in Chiquiska (1,893 m/6,210 feet). Along the way, you will be able to enjoy panoramic views of the Apurímac Canyon and scenery that combines imposing mountains with dense cloud forests. After continuing for an additional 2 hours, you will arrive at Playa Rosalina (1,478 m / 4,849 ft), where cozy tents and a hot drink await you, ending the day with dinner and a night in camp.
DAY 2: LA PLAYA – MARAMPATA – CHOQUEQUIRAO
After breakfast, the second day begins by crossing a suspension bridge that will take you over the canyon. Then, you will begin a 4-hour climb to Marampata (2,911 m / 9,550 ft). During this stretch, the tour is enriched by a visit to sugar cane farms, where the traditional “Cañazo” is made. Afterward, you will enjoy lunch in a picturesque setting, surrounded by spectacular views of mountains and rivers. After the break, you will continue with a 2-hour climb until you reach Choquequiraw (3,030 m / 9,940 ft). The camp will be located right next to the enigmatic archaeological site, allowing you to explore it at your own pace, either at sunrise or sunset.
DAY 3: EXPLORING CHOQUEQUIRAW
Starting the third day with the gentle awakening of the mountain, you will enjoy a cup of coca tea or coffee to welcome the sunrise. After an energizing breakfast, you will have the entire day to discover in detail this Inca city, also known as “the golden cradle” and often compared to Machu Picchu. Accompanied by an expert guide, you will explore every corner of Choquequiraw, uncovering its history and mysteries. The day of exploration will conclude with a return to camp to enjoy dinner and a restful night.
DAY 4: FROM CHOQUEQUIRAW TO CHIKISKA
With a new dawn, the fourth day begins after a hearty breakfast. First, you will take a 3-hour descent to Santa Rosa (2,230 m / 7,300 ft), where you will stop for lunch. Then, you will continue descending for an additional 2 hours and, after that, you will begin a 2-hour climb that will take you to the camp in Chiquiska (1,800 m / 5,905 ft). Along the way, you will be able to appreciate the natural diversity, observing the vibrant flora, the singing of the birds, and the relaxing murmur of the waterfalls.
DAY 5: RETURN TO CUSCO
As a grand finale, on the last day, after a hearty breakfast, you will begin a 4-hour uphill hike to return to Capuliyoc. Then, you will enjoy lunch and say goodbye to the team of chefs and porters who have accompanied you on this adventure. Finally, a private vehicle will take you to the archaeological site of Saywite, an enigmatic carved rock that continues to amaze experts. The day ends with the return to Cusco, where you will be dropped off at your hotel around 5:00 pm, concluding the 5-day/4-night Choquequiraw trek.
