Complete Guide to Visiting Machu Picchu by Bus in 2 Days and 1 Night

Recommended itinerary for  2-days, 1-night bus trip to Machu Picchu

 DAY 1 – CUSCO – HYDROELECTRIC PLANT – AGUAS CALIENTES

Early in the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel  around 7:00 and 8:00 AM. The tour will begin with a pleasant and scenic driving to  Ollantaytambo town , where we will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the area. We will take a short break of approximately 30 minutes. Then we go from Ollantaytambo to the highest point of this road, called “Abra Málaga,” which is located at an altitude of 4,316 meters. From this  point, we will see some of the most beautiful landscapes  that Peru has to offer.

After a short stop to take photos of the impressive snow-capped mountain next to the road, we will begin the descent into the deep rainforest, passing through different microclimates that combine amazing landscapes of majestic snow-capped peaks at the entrance to the tropical rainforest. We will continue our route along a perfectly maintained paved road, passing through the village of Alfamayo, until we reach Santa María, located at an altitude of 1,575 meters above sea level. We will take a  rest here ,  before continuing to the small town of Santa Teresa, where a delicious lunch will be awaiting for us in approximately two hours , there we will enjoy a  variety of different meals .

Later, around 3:45 PM, we  start  the  hike from Hydroelectric to Aguas Calientes town , which takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. We’ll reach the town of Machupicchu town, at which point we’ll be taken to the designated hostels and hotels. If we still have time, we can take a relaxing bath in the town’s healing thermal waters. At 8 p.m., however, it’s time to enjoy a delicious dinner with your guide. At that time, he or she will have the opportunity to review the following day’s itinerary and answer any questions you may have.

DAY 2 – SUNRISE IN MACHU PICCHU:

You will enjoy breakfast starting at 4:00 AM. then you will continue your early ascent to the citadel of Machu Picchu. It is a 1 hour and 30 minute hike (approximately), or you have the option to take the bus to the citadel. The guided tour of the Machu Picchu archaeological complex will begin at 6:00 AM and it will be around two hours. Then you will have free time to visit the most interesting sites until approximately 11:30 AM. This is the recommended time to return to Aguas Calientes (Ruins Bridge). Then we go back to hydroelectric plant, where the bus will be waiting to take us to Cusco, arriving at approximately 9:30 PM. We will return along the same road that brought us here.
