Reading the Coca Leaf in the Andes
The reading of coca leaves is an ancient Andean practice that has been in use since pre-Inca times, used as a form of cultural and spiritual guidance. This ritual is based on observing the shape, arrangement, and condition of coca leaves after a symbolic offering to Pachamama (Mother Earth), understood as a source of balance and harmony. In the Andean worldview, the coca leaf represents connection with nature, clarity in decision-making, and respect for the environment. Today, coca leaf reading is part of the living cultural heritage of the Peruvian Andes and is valued by visitors as an authentic experience that allows them to understand Andean spirituality from a respectful and cultural perspective.
